Annual Geography Lecture at Mount Holyoke College

I am so happy to share the video recording for Dr. Dan Trudeau’s talk for the 2023 annual geography lecture at Mount Holyoke College.

On February 9, 2023, Dr. Trudeau from Macalester College gave a talk entitled, “Another City is Possible: Advancing Public Scholarship in Geography,” for the geography lecture series. In his talk, Dr. Trudeau emphasized the importance of public scholarship that draws upon a geographic perspective to transform public spaces into places that cultivate diversity and belonging. To illustrate and ground these points, he shared some of his collaborative work in Lake Phalen Park in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He also showed how public scholarship emerges through the intersection of mass communication, public discussion, and knowledge production.

The informative and engaging talk generated a lively Q&A. It was a wonderful event that underscored the power of thinking geographically about public spaces, inclusion, and equity. Dr. Trudeau and I are also collaborators so it was especially meaningful for me to have Dr. Trudeau speak at MHC.
